Slovenia launches EV subsidy scheme

Slovenia has launched a new subsidy scheme for the purchase of brand-new fully electric vehicles.

The support extends not only to cars but also to two- and three-wheeled vehicles.

The eligible range includes passenger cars (M1), vans (N1), mopeds, light vehicles, and motorcycles.

Specifically, subsidies apply to vehicles in categories M1, N1, L7e, L6e, L5e, L4e, L3e, L2e, and L1e-B.

Notably, the purchase of a second-hand electric transporter is also eligible for support.

The new funding programme has a total budget of 9.2 million euros.

It is split into 5.2 million euros for private individuals and four million euros for legal entities, sole traders, and individuals engaged in business activities.

There are eleven different subsidy levels, which are staggered according to vehicle category.

Electric cars (M1 class) costing over 45,000 euros (incl. VAT) are not eligible. For electric vans (N1 class), the cap is 65,000 euros.

Interestingly, lower-cost models receive slightly higher subsidies than mid-range ones: The maximum grant of 7,200 euros is only available for M1 vehicles priced up to 35,000 euros. Those priced between 35,000 and 45,000 euros are eligible for a subsidy of 6,500 euros.

Private individuals can apply for the purchase grant from 2 September. Other applicants must wait until 7 October.

Applications may also be submitted retroactively for vehicles bought since 1 January 2025.

Background

Slovenia has repeatedly offered incentives for electric car purchases in recent years.

This call is similar to one launched in August 2024, in which funding thresholds and grant amounts were raised compared to earlier rounds.
