Solaris Bus & Coach has secured significant contracts with Nobina, Sweden’s leading public transport operator, to supply 88 electric buses.
These vehicles will operate in the regions of Skåne, Värmland, and the city of Malmö, marking a substantial step towards sustainable urban and suburban transport solutions in the country.
The company recently secured contracts to supply electric buses to the Swedish market, reinforcing its position as a leading provider of environmentally friendly transport solutions.
Nobina, a major transport operator in Sweden, has placed an order for 88 electric buses from Solaris for its fleet in Skåne, Värmland, and Malmö.
The order includes the articulated Urbino 18 electric and the Urbino 15 LE electric, a model designed specifically for the Scandinavian market and approved for interurban services.
Deliveries are scheduled for 2024 and 2025.
“This new order marks another significant step towards greener public transport solutions in Sweden,” said Olivier Michard, Member of the Management Board for Sales and Marketing at Solaris Bus & Coach.
He adds: “We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with Nobina and be a part of the implementation of zero-emission solutions in suburban transportation. We believe it is crucial for the global transformation of mobility.”
The buses for Skåne and Värmland will be the Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric, a low-entry, three-axle electric bus gaining popularity in Sweden.
Each vehicle will be powered by a 240 kilowatt (kW) central motor and Solaris High Energy batteries with a total capacity of over 560 kilowatt-hour (kWh), ensuring smooth operation throughout the day with overnight charging via a plug-in system.
These buses are adapted to difficult weather conditions, featuring additional outside lighting above the doors to facilitate boarding and alighting at dusk.
For Malmö, Nobina has chosen the Urbino 18 electric, an articulated model with a new modular-drive system and the latest battery technology.
This vehicle will be equipped with a 240 kW asynchronous motor and new-generation Solaris High Energy batteries, all located on the roof of the vehicle.
The company has maintained its position as the European e-mobility leader, holding the number one spot in the total number of zero-emission buses delivered since 2012.
The electrification of transportation in the continent is making significant progress, as seen in these new contracts, which follow last year’s agreements for 55 Urbino 15 LE electric buses for suburban services in Stockholm and 23 Solaris e-buses for VR Kristianstad, both for delivery in 2024.
The new contracts with Nobina underscore Solaris‘ ongoing commitment to providing sustainable and innovative solutions for public transport across Europe.
