Four of Europe’s top electric vehicle (EV) charging operators—Atlante, Electra, Fastned and IONITY—have officially launched Spark Alliance, a groundbreaking collaboration that aims to create the largest and most reliable EV charging network in Europe.
Announced on April 2, 2025, at the Cercle de l’Union Interalliée in Paris, the alliance marks a significant step toward simplifying the user experience and accelerating e-mobility adoption.
Spark Alliance is designed to remove key barriers in EV charging, most notably the need to juggle multiple apps, cards, or operator-specific access methods.
Through a seamless interoperability model, EV drivers will be able to locate, access, and pay for charging sessions across the network’s 11,000 high-power charging (HPC) points—all via the app of any participating member.
One app. One network. 11,000 chargers.
The Spark Alliance network will span 25 European countries, enabling any user of a participating app to view, navigate to, and activate chargers operated by all four companies.
With a shared commitment to transparent pricing and renewable energy, the alliance ensures a consistent, high-quality charging experience regardless of the vehicle brand or user location.
“Drivers can head to any charging station in the Alliance network and use any of the Alliance members’ apps to start and stop their charging session and pay,” Spark Alliance confirmed in a joint statement. “This creates a standardised, open network for everyone.”
The initiative tackles one of the most persistent user pain points in EV charging: fragmentation. Today’s drivers often face a complex maze of incompatible systems, unreliable chargers, and inconsistent payment options. Spark Alliance eliminates this by aggregating reliable, ultra-fast infrastructure into a single, coherent network.
“EV drivers often find themselves in a maze: too many apps, charging cards and low-quality charging points create confusion and uncertainty,” said Michiel Langezaal, CEO and co-founder of Fastned.
“We are solving this problem by bringing together Europe’s leading charging infrastructure companies to create the most relaxed charging experience in Europe’s largest network.”
Powering a cleaner, simpler future for electric travel
All stations within the Spark Alliance will be powered by 100% renewable electricity, further reinforcing the companies’ shared commitment to climate action and sustainable transport.
The alliance will also integrate route planners, allowing users to easily find the most convenient and reliable stations from any partner’s app interface.
“Driving and charging an electric vehicle should be exciting, not overwhelming,” added Jeroen van Tilburg, CEO of IONITY.
“Our collaboration sends a strong signal for e-mobility in Europe: reliable fast charging, simplified across 25 EU countries – all within the app that drivers already trust.”
For Atlante, this move is about more than access. It’s about shaping the future of public EV charging through cooperation, transparency and innovation.
“We will immediately take practical steps, such as displaying our stations in the apps of our fellow members,” said Stefano Terranova, CEO of Atlante.
“But we will also push forward with new initiatives that make high-quality public charging even more accessible and secure.”
Standardisation, reliability, and scalability: the pillars of Spark Alliance
“At Electra, we’ve always prioritised speed, simplicity and reliability,” explained Aurélien de Meaux, co-founder and CEO of Electra.
“With Spark Alliance, we go a step further—offering over 11,000 premium charging points that can be accessed with a single app. This is the future of e-mobility: smooth, cost-effective and planet-friendly.”
The alliance sends a strong message to the entire sector: interoperability is no longer optional—it’s a prerequisite for mass EV adoption.
By combining their expertise, infrastructure and customer-centric philosophies, the founding members of Spark Alliance aim to set new standards and welcome other like-minded operators in the near future.
