SPIE deploys e-Vadea nationwide and opens first stations in Châteauroux

These projects are developed in partnership between SPIE CityNetworks and the Fund for the Ecological Modernisation of Transport (FMET), represented by DEMETER. The partnership guarantees deployment, operation and maintenance of the infrastructure over a 15-year period.

This latest phase in the development of the e-Vadea network marks a significant acceleration of its deployment strategy in urban centres and rural areas, following the successful roll-out across APRR and Vinci motorway service areas during 2022–2023.

The first e-Vadea station in Châteauroux was officially inaugurated today, in the presence of Gil Avérous, Mayor and President of Châteauroux Métropole, and Luc Sauze, Managing Director of SPIE CityNetworks. This opening represents a key milestone in extending the e-Vadea network beyond motorways, with a strategically chosen site in the heart of the Indre region.

Châteauroux will host four 180 kW ultra-fast charging stations, delivering a total of 16 charging points across four high-traffic locations: Avenue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Avenue de La Châtre, Rue Paul-Accolas and Boulevard de la Valla. Positioned near administrative centres, shopping areas and residential zones, these stations will enable residents, professionals and visitors to conveniently recharge their electric vehicles as part of their daily routines.

Each 180 kW terminal allows ultra-fast charging — enabling a battery to go from 20% to 80% in just 25 minutes.

A turnkey solution combining performance with optimised public expenditure

The expansion of the e-Vadea network is picking up pace: SPIE CityNetworks plans to open 25 new stations in 2025, with 50 additional sites currently under negotiation.

These projects are developed in partnership between SPIE CityNetworks and the Fund for the Ecological Modernisation of Transport (FMET), represented by DEMETER. The partnership guarantees deployment, operation and maintenance of the infrastructure over a 15-year period.

The e-Vadea model offers a comprehensive approach that includes infrastructure financing, installation and grid connection, signage implementation, and operation and monitoring via the ORIOS by SPIE platform.

It also covers both preventive and corrective maintenance. This model enables local authorities to access high-power charging infrastructure without requiring any public investment, while boosting regional appeal.

From motorways to municipalities: e-Vadea prepares for the future

In the first quarter of 2025, more than 30,000 charges were registered on the existing motorway network — a 75% increase year-on-year. This success strengthens e-Vadea’s position as the fifth-largest ultra-fast charging network in Europe.

User experience remains a central focus, with features such as subscription-free access, contactless payment by bank card, and compatibility with a wide range of charging cards.

Building on this momentum, SPIE CityNetworks is preparing for its third development phase — including the launch of the first e-Vadea charging station for electric heavy goods vehicles, scheduled for 2025. This confirms the company’s commitment to playing a pioneering role in the shift towards cleaner mobility.

“Our ambition is to meet the growing needs of electric vehicle users by offering a reliable, accessible and fully integrated regional charging network,” says Marie-Pierre Maccario, Director of Business Development & Strategy at SPIE CityNetworks.

“These new installations demonstrate our ability to support local communities in their energy transition, enhancing their attractiveness — all while preserving their public finances.”
