T-Carica, company spearheading the expansion of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, has reached a significant milestone, surpassing 100 charging stations in Italy.
This achievement includes the installation of the first electric vehicle charging station in Milan, contributing 24 charging points in the city. This growth underscores T-Carica’s commitment to advancing electric mobility across Italy.
With a well-established presence in key regions such as Veneto, Lombardy, Piedmont, Lazio, Calabria, Sicily, and Sardinia, T-Carica continues to expand its network through strategic partnerships with retail platforms, supermarkets, and public administrations.
The company has implemented both DC fast chargers and AC charging stations, enhancing accessibility to charging infrastructure throughout the country, in both urban and rural areas.
T-Carica founder and CEO of Innovo Group Holding, Rodolfo Bigolin, emphasised, “With T-Carica, we aim to build an infrastructure network that integrates seamlessly into the daily lives of people choosing electric mobility.”
He highlighted how the company, through collaborative agreements with public and private spaces, is achieving comprehensive coverage that adds value to local communities and makes electric mobility a practical option for all.
Italy’s growing charging infrastructure
This milestone aligns with the broader expansion of Italy’s electric vehicle charging network, which continues to show positive growth.
According to the latest report from the Italian Ministry of Industry (published on 23 October 2023), the country had reached a total of 60,339 public charging points as of 30 September 2023. This reflects an increase of 13,111 units over the past 12 months and 9,661 units since January 2023.
Motus-E has stressed the importance of close collaboration between institutions and industry to fully leverage the resources of the PNRR (Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan), which could further accelerate the expansion of the charging network, particularly in southern regions and areas with limited market attractiveness.
Fabio Pressi, President of Motus-E, stated that cross-sector collaboration is essential for achieving energy transition and successfully meeting decarbonisation goals.
Regional leadership in Italy
In terms of geographical distribution, Lombardy remains the leading region with 11,687 charging points, followed by Lazio (6,217 points) and Piedmont (6,035 points), while Rome leads as the province with the most charging stations, boasting 4,919 points installed.
Despite these advances, Motus-E highlights the importance of expediting authorisation processes to optimise the infrastructure nationwide and reduce the percentage of unconnected charging points, which currently stands at 17.8%.
Italian motorways have also seen a significant increase in the deployment of fast-charging stations, with a total of 1,057 points installed as of 30 September 2023, 86% of which are DC fast chargers.
This effort reflects a growing collaboration between the government and operators to ensure that electric vehicles can recharge quickly even on long-haul routes, facilitating the transition to electric mobility throughout the country.
This progress in charging infrastructure not only supports sustainability but also enhances the competitiveness of Italian companies in the electric mobility sector, providing efficient charging solutions that are key to achieving net-zero emissions by 2030.
