The UK Government has announced a £1.5 billion package of measures to drive the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs).
The plan includes an additional £1.3 billion to expand the electric car grant scheme.
A further £200 million in fresh funding will be directed towards accelerating the rollout of charge points.
This budget is aimed at supporting Local Authorities in the deployment of on-street charging solutions.
The package also includes a commitment to review the costs associated with public EV charging.
In response to the announcement, Vicky Read, Chief Executive of ChargeUK, stated: “The move to EVs is already underway, but to truly accelerate this transition, access to affordable vehicles and effective charging infrastructure at home, near home and on the go is absolutely vital.”
“The charging sector has been actively delivering what is needed, but rising business costs have increased prices and put billions of pounds of investment at risk,” she added.
According to Read, the measures announced will help drivers access cheaper EVs, address the factors influencing public charging costs, and support Local Authorities in working with the sector to deliver for their communities.
She also stressed the importance of turning these government commitments into concrete action and resolving the proposed changes to business rates, which could undermine this progress if left unaddressed.
