In conversation with Mobility Portal Europe, the company outlines its strategy and details plans to expand its battery-swapping model to new locations, not only in Spain but also in Italy. Why do businesses choose ZEWAY?

ZEWAY, the pioneering company in battery exchange for electric motorcycles, is consolidating its position as a player in promoting sustainable mobility in Europe. 

After successfully operating in cities such as Paris, Nice and Madrid, the next objective in the national territory is Barcelona, ​​where they plan to deploy their network of stations.

Within the framework of the Global Mobility CallCristina García de Lago Hervías, Business Development Director, tells Mobility Portal Europe: “We are preparing the deployment to offer the service this new year.”

This strategic move is a response to the good performance of its model in the capital, where the firm already has more than 17 locations.

What differences does ZEWAY notice between Spain and France?

According to the company representative, public policies and infrastructure have played a crucial role in the acceptance of the service in France. 

“In Paris, restrictive policies towards cars and the ban on scooters have facilitated the adoption of electric motorcycles,” she says. 

She adds: “However, traffic and urban conditions there are more complicated than in Spain.”

In contrast, the national territory has shown greater openness regarding electric mobility, especially in the business sector

ZEWAY collaborates with multinationals and municipal companies to offer its solutions, as is the case of the EMT of Madrid, where they have installed battery exchange stations in the car parks.

In this context, the choice to continue expanding in Spain is not random. 

According to García de Lago Hervías, the country offers a favorable environment for two wheels vehicles due to its climate and culture, factors that align with the company’s strategy. 

“Here, users are more aware of the usefulness of an electric motorcycle than in other European markets,” she says.

It is worth noting that it is also taking its model to Milan, adding another milestone in its international expansion. 

“Currently, in Italy we are a few months behind Spain, but the service will start soon,” she explains, stressing the importance of adapting the infrastructure to the particularities of each market.

What service does ZEWAY offer?

The firm allows users to rent electric motorcycles with insurance, maintenance and unlimited battery exchanges for a monthly fee, eliminating concerns about the autonomy of these vehicles.

In this sense, its model is based on technology and sustainability. 

Its stations allow batteries to be exchanged in less than 50 seconds, making its vehicles an agile and efficient option for getting around cities. 

Its service includes five models of electric motorcycles, all compatible with the network of stations. 

“This ensures that the user can always use the network of exchange stations,” she explains.

Their commitment to the environment is present throughout their operations. 

ZEWAY recovers and recycles used batteries through accredited entities, reducing the environmental impact. 

The lifespan of its cells increases by up to 50% thanks to the slow and regular charging system at its stations.

Strategic alliances 

Globally, the company has more than 2,500 electric motorcycles in circulation, has managed more than 800,000 battery exchanges and plans to continue growing in the new year. 

In Madrid, collaborations with municipal markets and large supermarket chains are notable, facilitating access to exchange stations.

“Our main client is the B2C channel, but we also work with companies that want to offer their employees an efficient and affordable mobility solution,” explains the executive.

What is the company’s objective during its participation in the Global Mobility Call?

“To make our service known in Spain, allowing users to recognise that it is an accessible, technological, efficient and, above all, environmentally friendly solution,” she concludes.
