With the support of EQT Infrastructure, the British company InstaVolt‘s expansion in Spain is progressing steadily with the implementation of an ultra-fast charging network.
Seven months after its launch in the national territory, the company already has 11 ultra-fast chargers in operation.
“In the coming weeks, we expect to at least triple this figure, with new openings in every region of the country, from north to south,” João Lopes, Head of Sales and Development, told Mobility Portal España.
Within this framework, InstaVolt has several hubs that are about to open, highlighting a launch in Catalonia (with 12 chargers) and another in Andalusia (with eight chargers).
And not only that.
It is currently finalizing details to announce new partnerships with players in the retail and restaurant sectors , which will simplify the expansion of its network in high-traffic areas.
“We will soon be launching improvements to our user experience, including new technological features that will make vehicle charging easier,” he adds.
The company entered the Spanish market in September 2024 and has a headquarters in Madrid that allows it to coordinate expansion and ensure that each new location offers a reliable and hassle-free charging experience .
It also has a team spread throughout Spain.
“Soon, zero- and low-emission vehicle owners will begin to see InstaVolt maintenance vans on every road across the country,” he explains.
Its deployment strategy is clear: prioritize strategic locations and establish key partnerships from day one.
“We’re coming to Spain with a clear ambition: to revolutionize electric vehicle charging with the same reliability and user experience that has made us leaders in the United Kingdom,” he emphasizes.
Challenges and opportunities in the Spanish market
While InstaVolt’s expansion has been well received nationwide, the company identifies challenges that could slow the growth of the charging infrastructure.
“There are still challenges to overcome, such as the need for greater support for the purchase of electric vehicles and the complexities of existing regulations for operators,” he says.
And he emphasizes: “However, we are encouraged by the growing interest from both electric vehicle drivers and our business partners.”
According to the company’s representative, Spaniards are increasingly seeking reliable and efficient charging solutions.
Another challenge pointed out by Lopes is the time required for administrative processes and the availability of certain strategic locations.
The focus on the B2B sector
InstaVolt’s goal is not limited to helping its partners monetize their spaces, but also to contribute to their growth by providing a seamless and attractive charging solution for its customers.
“Our charging centers are fully funded by us, which means they don’t incur any costs or require additional work in their daily operations,” he explains.
In this context, local alliances are fundamental to its growth strategy.
In this regard, InstaVolt collaborates with real estate companies, parking operators, and large restaurant and retail chains to ensure a properly distributed and accessible charging network for all.
“We want to have the maximum impact on the local economy, and we don’t just work with major brands; we also want to give SMEs the opportunity to offer this service to their customers,” he emphasizes.
The firm has conducted a detailed analysis of strategic locations on highways, restaurants, shops, and town halls to address the consumer habits of Spaniards.
At the same time, the B2C segment is also a key target for the company.
The stations are installed at high-traffic locations, such as highways, retail parks, and service stations, facilitating access to high-power charging infrastructure.
InstaVolt is committed to making drivers’ lives easier by offering more reliable and convenient service at strategic locations, whether for daily commutes, quick stops, or long-distance trips.
“By bridging the gap between these two groups, we’re creating a robust charging network that benefits both businesses and drivers,” says Lopes.
The technology behind InstaVolt
The company’s 160kW chargers can add up to 675km of range in less than 50 minutes, with CHAdeMO and CCS connectors and a built-in contactless payment system as standard.
“We were the first operator to develop contactless payment systems on our equipment,” Lopes emphasizes.
While other companies are just beginning to implement this system due to European regulations, InstaVolt already has more than six years of experience using it.
“Our easy and reliable payment system is one of our key distinguishing features,” he adds.
In addition, the company is working on integrating Plug&Charge technology to further simplify charging.
It complements this experience with its own application and a dynamic pricing system, adjusted to demand and designed to optimize costs for users.
Their method consists of installing one charger per parking space, ensuring that all stations have the maximum available power.
Exceptionally in Spain and to comply with current legislation, InstaVolt also installs AC semi-rapid chargers to assist owners in meeting the requirements established in each location.
To ensure uninterrupted service, the company implements preventive maintenance protocols and real-time monitoring.
This approach has enabled it to achieve an effective availability of over 99.8% in the UK.
“Our goal is to replicate the same level of excellence in Spain, offering drivers a reliable infrastructure,” he says.
All maintenance is performed by in-house engineers, ensuring complete control over the chargers’ operation.
“Reliability is a top priority,” Lopes concludes.
For this reason, InstaVolt has a highly trained technical support team and power management systems that guarantee efficient, uninterrupted service.
