During 2023, Iberdrola doubled its public charging infrastructure, reaching more than 6,000 points throughout Spain.
Now, the company is raising the stakes even further with new projects for fleet electrification.
Within the framework of the “International Mobility Portal Summit”, Pablo de Regoyos, Head of SmartMobility Companies of the company emphasizes:
“The important thing is that in all these cases there is no solution equal to the previous one.”
And he details: “They are combinations of different solutions that provide each client with exactly what they need.”
For example, it has implemented public charging at company headquarters so that they can be used by people outside the organization.

Iberdrola facilitates recharging for more than 550 buses
This commitment is part of the firm’s Sustainable Mobility Plan and pursues the objective of achieving more sustainable cities.
Among the urban transport electrification projects that it is developing, there are initiatives in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Valladolid, Alcorcón, Algeciras, Elche, Pamplona, Alicante and Girona, among others.
The more than 550 charging points have powers ranging from 100 kilowatts (kW) to 360 kW.
Specifically, these are connected to buses by cable or, in some cases, with pantograph technology located on the top of the vehicle.
Iberdrola | bp pulse will run the first MCS charger in southern Europe
Following this line, the company focuses on promoting the electrification of heavy vehicles, but this time with one of the most anticipated solutions in the sector: the Megawatt Charging System (MCS).
With a power of more than 1,000 kW, it will be fully operational in July and will allow up to 80 per cent of the battery of an electric truck to be charged in just 30 minutes.
This will be ideal so that drivers can comply with the rest periods stipulated by the European Regulation, which are 45 minutes every four and a half hours of driving.
It should be noted that the equipment will be manufactured by the Spanish company Power Electronics and will be located in Murcia, in the logistics base of Disfrimur, the firm dedicated to the transportation and logistics of goods.
The batteries of these vehicles will be around 600 and 1,000 kW hour, which will allow the range to be extended between 300 and 400 kilometers.
Iberdrola builds the most powerful electric station in the country
On March 18, the company began construction of this electric station that will have 47 charging points, with a total power of 5.6 MW.
Not only this, but it will also have a solar community that will enable access to self-consumption for 92 families without the need to have their own installation or make investments.
The capacity offered by each charger will vary, including 15 ultra-fast.
Where could it be?
The future electric station will be located between the cities of Leganés, Getafe, Fuenlabrada and Alcorcón.
In its area of influence, it serves a population of 750,000 residents and is located near Parque Polvoranca station and the connections to the M-406 (north), M-407 (west), M-409 (east), and M-50 (south) motorways.
The project is funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Iberdrola will complete the installation works this summer, awaiting connection to the network and the latest administrative authorizations.
Alongside Gran Vía Alicante, it is launching 32 charging stations
The installation, which will be carried out in the shopping center parking lot, has a 150 kW super-fast charging point with two outlets.
Added to this are four 50 kW rapids, one of 22 kW with two intakes and 12 with two intakes of up to 10.6 kW.
Users of these facilities will recharge the battery of their electric cars with 100 per cent green energy, from renewable generation sources, with a guarantee of origin certificate (GdOs).
Iberdrola | bp pulse starts the first large ultrafast station in Burgos
Recently, the joint venture has launched this station located in the Abadesa hotel and restaurant complex, owned by Villarce, in Villagonzalo Pedernales.
It is a strategic enclave for trips to the north of the Iberian Peninsula.
The new installation has eight points, two of 350 kW and six of 150 kW, which enable the simultaneous charging of eight vehicles.
According to Iberdrola, if a full day at full capacity is considered, this station could serve more than 700 cars.
At this point, within the framework of the event organized by Mobility Portal España, the question arises: is it possible to replicate a project in two different places?
“It’s hard. No two jobs are exactly the same, but some solutions that have already been applied before are used,” says Pablo de Regoyos.
To achieve this, Iberdrola accompanies operators and administrations from the prior analysis, where the operation is studied, load needs are detected, and the best ones are proposed, until implementation.
The objective is to ensure an efficient installation at the lowest cost.
The firm’s goal for 2024 includes the implementation of more than 3,000 additional chargers, exceeding 9,000 by the end of the year, to which is also added the high-power network resulting from its alliance with bp pulse.
