The Chinese vehicle manufacturer BYD will hire the former director of Stellantis in the United Kingdom (UK) with the aim of accelerating the group’s expansion across the European continent.
Maria Grazia Davino will take on the responsibility of leading the Asian company’s strategy in the region following her departure from the group led by Carlos Tavares on October 18.
Davino is now the third high-profile executive from Stellantis to join the Chinese group after having openly advocated for subsidies for electric vehicles in the UK, even threatening to close Stellantis factories if the government did not reduce decarbonisation targets or introduce consumer incentives.
This move in the UK comes just days after it was revealed that in Spain, Alberto de Aza, who became director of Peugeot (Stellantis) Spain two months ago, was recruited by BYD as the new head of the Asian company’s business in Spain and Portugal, as confirmed by European group sources to Europa Press.
Additionally, Alessandro Grosso, former Vice President of Sales for Stellantis in Italy, joined BYD a few weeks ago as Director for Italy.
