Electric vehicles (EVs) are experiencing a surge in momentum, becoming an increasingly common sight on European roads.
However, this sector is not without its challenges: protectionism, economic instability, and growing trade conflicts are all on the rise.
That is why, in order to support this global transformation of transport, cooperation between policymakers and industry is essential, along with fruitful dialogue and financial backing.

In this context, from 15 to 18 June, industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers will gather at the 38th International Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS38) to help shape a future that is already taking form.
The event, organised by E-Mobility Europe and hosted by Business Region Göteborg, will be held at Svenska Mässan, Gothenburg, Sweden.
“We have a fantastic line-up of speakers, plenty of new business announcements, a packed electric mobility exhibition, and an extensive academic programme,” says Chris Heron, Secretary General of E-Mobility Europe.
“If you’re in the E-Mobility world, we’ll see you in Gothenburg!” he adds.
“After an immensely successful event in Oslo for EVS35, we now head to another country that highlights EV advancement: Sweden. And what better place to organise our home event than the domestic automotive hotspot—Gothenburg?,” says Maciej Mazur, President at E-Mobility Europe.

“The Nordic city will host EVS38, expecting more than 11 000 visitors. Participants encompass many sectors, from stakeholders and industry representatives to policymakers and associations to academics, researchers, and EV users,” he adds.
Around 300 exhibitors are expected, and visitors from 70 countries.
Among the topics to be addressed are:
- Electric cars and trucks
- Investment and geopolitics
- Innovations in charging
- Grid flexibility
- Batteries and the supply chain
- Autonomous driving
It is worth mentioning that Mobility Portal Europe will be travelling to Gothenburg to provide exclusive coverage of the event.
EVS38 brings together the leading E-Mobility companies
Among the EVS38 partners are Volvo Cars, Volvo Group, CharIN, AUTEL, Daimler Truck, Nissan, Polestar, RISE, Siemens, Driivz, Iveco Group, Solidstudio, Vestel, and We Drive Solar.
Also taking part are AFRY, AMPECO, AVL, Castellum, Deftpower, DEKRA, FLEXIS, GreenFlux, Infypower Electric GmbH, Milence, S&P Global Mobility, Spirii, Traton Charging Solutions, Virta Global, and Zaptec.
However, many more companies will be participating in EVS38.
Why Gothenburg?
The Gothenburg region is one of the world’s most knowledge-intensive regions per capita, especially when it comes to automotive development and future electromobility solutions.
With a focus on innovation, sustainability and collaboration, Gothenburg has established itself as one of Europe’s most dynamic electromobility clusters.
The region holds the entire value chain in E-Mobility and is home to innovative companies, academic and research institutions, unique test environments and demonstration projects.
Progressive brands including Volvo Cars, the Volvo Group, Polestar, Einride, Heart Aerospace, Stena Line, CEVT and NovoEnergy are headquartered or carrying out research and development there.
In addition, Gothenburg and western Sweden have a fast-growing battery ecosystem, which in the coming years will feature, among other things, two battery gigafactories.
“We are extremely proud to host EVS38, and the timing is perfect from many perspectives. We have a fantastic ecosystem, very exciting developments, and significant investments taking place – across most modes of transport. The question is whether any other European city can offer anything similar,” says Patrik Andersson, CEO of Business Region Gothenburg.
It’s worth mentioning that the city strongly focuses on reducing emissions as well as adopting and promoting clean transport solutions.
99% of public transport in the county runs on renewable energy and the city’s transport system will be entirely fossil free by 2030.
Gothenburg has been selected as one of EUs 100 climate-neutral cities in 2030 and named the world’s most sustainable destination seven times.
About EVS
The International Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition (EVS) series, organized by the World Electric Vehicle Association (WEVA), is recognized as the premier event for academic, government and industry professionals involved in electric drive technologies.
The EVS series began in 1969 as an academic forum for global networking and the exchange of technical information.
As electric drive technologies progressed from the classrooms and laboratories into the marketplace, EVS expanded into an event both academic and business oriented.
