Electric motorcycles have gained presence in the Spanish two-wheeler fleet and now represent 2.24% of it, with a total of 74,705 units circulating on the streets and roads of Spain, according to a study by “Estamos Seguros”.
The initiative for disseminating insurance culture, in collaboration with the National Association of Two-Wheeler Companies (Anesdor) and Information Technology and Networks for Insurance Entities (Tirea).
The report ‘Two-Wheeled Vehicles by Engine Types. 2020 Data’ concludes that there are currently 40,057 operational motorcycles in Spain, along with 17,440 mopeds and 17,208 scooters that use an electric motor.
In larger cities, those with over half a million inhabitants, these vehicles account for 2.91% of the local two-wheeler fleet, while in municipalities with a population of between 10,000 and 50,000 inhabitants, electric motorcycles account for 2.65% of the two-wheeler fleet.
Likewise, Madrid is the province with the highest proportion of motorcycles and mopeds emitting no gases, accounting for 5.43% of the fleet. Barcelona (3.27%) and the Balearic Islands (2.65%) follow behind the capital.
However, when analyzing individual municipalities, Barcelona takes the lead (5.78%). In the city of Madrid, this type of vehicles represents 2.14%, while Palma ranks third with another 1.96%.
Despite this, it is worth noting that half of the electric motorcycles and mopeds in the country belong to companies, mainly delivery companies and rental firms.
