Christmas is approaching, and toy stores are experiencing a significant increase in customer traffic.
Although the range of toys to choose from is extensive, some stand out for promoting sustainability and electric vehicles (EVs).
The truth is that the progress of electromobility is not only evident by the presence of zero-emission cars on the streets but also because EVs are increasingly seen on the shelves of toy stores.
What are the most popular toys? Next, Mobility Portal Europe shares the details.
Barbie
In October 2022, the American company Mattel released the Barbie Electric Vehicle With Charging Station And Plug HJV36.
It is a convertible car that easily transforms by removing the roof for an “open-air ride.”
Additionally, it includes a charging point with a plug to simulate the vehicle recharge, promoting sustainability awareness in children.
It’s worth mentioning that dolls are not included, the car does not move on its own, and colors and decorations may vary.
This is not Barbie’s only venture into electromobility.
It’s worth recalling that this year saw the release of the movie “Barbie,” which broke box office records and is now available on the HBO Max streaming platform.
Starring Margot Robbie, the iconic doll drives a first-generation Chevrolet Corvette C1, corresponding to the model sold between 1956 and 1958. The letters “EV” can be seen on the side panel and the steering wheel.
Hot Wheels
Mattel’s Hot Wheels offers various replicas of real-life EVs.
While these toys are in a small scale, they feature many details.
Some of the most popular ones include the Tesla Model S, the Porsche Taycan, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, and the Nissan Leaf.
Hot Wheels also markets a series of limited edition cars inspired by real electric vehicles.
Some of them include the Tesla Cybertruck, the Rivian R1T, the Lucid Air, the Audi e-tron GT, and the Mercedes-Benz EQS.
In addition, the company has launched the “City Downtown Car Park,” a parking set that includes a vehicle, an exit ramp, an elevator, four levels to house the cars, and a stand with a charger for EVs.
LEGO
Founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen, LEGO is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of play materials.
This company, which has sustainability goals, has released various toys that promote electric mobility.
One such example is the LEGO Friends Olivia’s Electric Car set, which includes a charging station with a wind turbine and a solar panel.
In this way, children can spin the turbine and “generate electricity” to power the vehicle.
The company also offers the LEGO City Electric Sports Car, which includes a minifigure of a driver and a charging point.
A third toy based on electromobility is the LEGO City Cargo Train.
This set features a buildable toy train with various carriages, two electric vehicles, a charging station, minifigures, among other items.
Playmobil
The Playmobil toy line is constantly evolving.
In fact, the company has launched different versions featuring electric cars.
One of them is the “Camper Family Fun Vehicle,” which includes 135 pieces, including a spacious motorhome with freely moving wheels and a removable roof that provides access to the interior, as well as a charging point.
The company also offers an electric tractor with a folding roof that “recharges” with energy at the electric charging station.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning one of the most eye-catching Playmobil toys, which is based on the company’s movie released in 2019.
It features the figure of the secret agent “Rex Dasher” alongside the sleek and sporty Porsche Mission E.
The Porsche has a “turbocharge” function that allows quickly filling the vehicle’s batteries.
The car has a removable roof and includes a remote control, activatable lights, a charging point, among other accessories.
