The company Evergo celebrates the opening of its first “Evergo Connect” electric charging station, a cutting-edge facility that heralds the future of electric mobility throughout the region and positions the Dominican Republic, especially its eastern region, as one of the leading destinations towards a zero-emission development model.

This project, situated on the East Tourist Boulevard in Bávaro, Punta Cana, and the first of its kind in Latin America, revolutionizes the electric charging concept by integrating state-of-the-art technology, sustainability, and the convenience of modern facilities, allowing users to enjoy personalized downtime while charging their electric vehicles.

Evergo Connect stands out as a fully equipped space capable of serving up to 29 vehicles simultaneously through ultra-fast chargers capable of charging an electric vehicle in less than 20 minutes, depending on its battery and capacity.

These chargers can also cater to cargo and passenger transportation.

Furthermore, the space has been designed with user comfort in mind, offering free Wi-Fi access, relaxation areas, coworking spaces, gastronomy, children’s zones, electric vehicle rental service, and an electric vehicle showroom to explore and experience firsthand the latest innovations in the sector, among other amenities.

Under the motto “charge your vehicle with the sun,” one of the most outstanding features of Evergo Connect is that both its chargers and the facilities are powered by 100 percent renewable energy from photovoltaic generation. This is made possible through a partnership with its sister company CEPM and its location in the concession area of this energy company.

Thus, the eastern region of the country, and by extension, the Dominican Republic, is positioned as a global zero-emission benchmark.

In the words of Rolando González Bunster, President and CEO of InterEnergy Group, the parent company of Evergo:

“We can be proud as a country to have a project of this nature, developed by 100% Dominican talent, which places the Dominican Republic at the forefront of innovation and sustainability.”

“Our goal is to extend this pilot project to other parts of the country and the region in the short term”, he adds.

As the next destinations for Evergo Connect, Evergo is focusing in the short term on Santo Domingo, Mexico City, and Panama City; and soon, New York.

The company also has a presence in the markets of Jamaica, Uruguay, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Aruba.

In all these territories, it has installed over 15,000 chargers, including public, residential (My Evergo), and corporate (Evergo Fleet) charging points. In the Dominican Republic, its network exceeds 560 units.

“Our goal is to continue growing in the region and become a model for promoting electric mobility and environmental sustainability. With our network, we have already offset over 2.5 million kilograms of CO2, and we aim to add much more on the path to a greener future,” expressed Rolando González Bunster.

A sustainable and pioneering vision of Evergo

Evergo Connect provides an innovative space where pioneering solutions in the country serve the users. The main ones are the ultra-fast chargers, pioneers in the country.

Another of these innovations is the ‘Battery Swap‘ system, which allows continuous and uninterrupted operation of delivery services for franchises operating inside and outside the electric charging station.

It has also developed a patented system with the installation of stationary bikes within Evergo Connect facilities, which convert generated energy into energy credits. Users can exercise while waiting for their electric vehicles to charge.

The calories burned during exercise are recorded and, through a conversion process, converted into energy credits applied to the user’s charging bill via the Evergo app.

Evergo Connect required an investment of approximately ten million dollars, with the support of IDB Invest, the private investment arm of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and Bank of America.

For the multilateral institution, energy transition in the region is of vital importance, which is why Evergo Connect was one of the highlighted projects visited by key representatives at the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the IDB and IDB Invest 2024 held in Punta Cana.
