The French government, led by President Emmanuel Macron, introduced a series of measures in September to reduce carbon emissions in the country’s economy, including the transportation sector.
The plan, which is of an intersectoral nature, aims to achieve a 55% reduction in emissions by the year 2030, compared to 1990.
Among the policies related to electric mobility are social leasing and, as an extension of this measure, the ecological bonus.
Some of the models that can access these incentives are the DS3, the Hyundai Kona Electric, the Nissan Leaf, the Peugeot e-208, the Renault Zoe, the Tesla Model Y and the Volkswagen ID.3.
It is worth mentioning that social leasing allows citizens to acquire an EV without paying the total cost.
The lease contract must last at least three years. At the end, the individual can return the vehicle or purchase it at its residual value.
Prices vary, but the fee is usually €100 or less per month, although it can reach up to €150 for family models.
As for the car, it must achieve the minimum environmental score, and its purchase price must be less than or equal to €47,000.
On the other hand, the ecological bonus is a financial aid granted to any buyer or lessee of a low or zero-emission cars.
The amount of this government incentive is determined based on the type of vehicle’s motorization and its purchase price.
From 2024 onwards, the amount will be €5,000 to €7,000, and it will only be granted to electric cars with a production carbon footprint of less than 14.75 tons of CO2.

Hyundai Kona Electric
The South Korean company, the largest in its country, features the Hyundai Kona Electric as its flagship model.
The approximate price of this model will range between €32,000 and €34,000 in 2024.
Additionally, it is equipped with a Type 2 charging connector.
Nissan Leaf
One of the most popular vehicles from the Japanese manufacturer, the Nissan Leaf, is covered by the subsidy.
This family car has a base price of €28,495 and supports two charging standards for its inputs: Type 2 and CHAdeMO.
Peugeot
Peugeot, another French national brand, presents a model eligible for the incentives. It is the Peugeot e-208.
The starting price for this model in the country is €34,800.

The company stands out in the national market with its Renault Zoe, one of the best-selling models in the country.
The cost of this model is €32,291.

Tesla Model Y
