FLEXECHARGE launches its OCPP data broker for CPOs

This product will be part of their platform aimed at CPOs and other charging companies seeking greater freedom and control over their own data. Below, Christophe Lephilibert, Marketing Director at FLEXECHARGE, shares with Mobility Portal Europe all the details about this launch.
FLEXECHARGE launches solution to provide charging companies with greater flexibility in their services

FLEXECHARGE, a leader within the load & energy management software space, introduces a new solution to the market within its HARMON-E platform, a tool that promises to provide charging point operators (CPOs) with greater flexibility and control over their data.

Christophe Lephilibert, the Marketing Director, asserts that this will enable charge point operators to add new services and switch management systems (CPMS) with ease.

It acts as an intermediary layer between the chargers and Charge Point Management Systems,” he highlights in an interview with Mobility Portal Europe.

The innovation allows CPOs to more easily adopt to new services and explore different management systems in parallel, which can be very useful when they integrate new regional networks or operate in different markets.

This aligns with the mission of the Danish company, founded in 2019 with the vision of integrating electric vehicle (EV) charging into smart grids, making cars contribute to a more sustainable economy.

According to Lephilibert, “HARMON-E has always acted as an intermediary layer between chargers and the main CPMS,” which include widely recognised providers such as Monta, Spirii, and GreenFlux.

Delving into the specific benefits of the platform, he explains that it is not a traditional energy solution but an IT platform that addresses the market need for more versatile charging technology stack.

“Before this innovation, migrating between CPMS, for example, was a complex and costly task,” says the Marketing Director.

The new solution facilitates this transition by acting as a data broker based on the OCPP protocol, a resource that reduces operational complexity and gives CPOs the freedom to quickly integrate new services, like predictive maintenance, advanced scheduling or carbon credit.

Flexibility is the key to the evolution of FLEXECHARGE, in a context where the increased adoption of EVs places pressure on charging systems and electricity grids.

“We intervene in the middle, allowing CPOs to adapt to new services in real time,” Lephilibert asserts.

Thanks to this data broker, operators can not only immediately add third-party services but also test different CPMS in various regions or countries, ensuring that they use the ones that are most adapted to their business.

This represents a significant advancement over the previous integration barriers.

The future: FLEXECHARGE focuses on unlocking CPOs’ excess capacity

The company is developing virtual power plants (VPPs) for public charging, an initiative that will allow CPOs to leverage available capacity and reduce peak demand.

“The first step is to reduce the load on cars when energy prices are high, and in the future, when the technology and regulation will be fully ready, we aim to implement Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) solutions to inject energy back into the grid,” he notes.

Currently, the firm operates on a decentralised model from its offices in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Germany.

“11 months ago, thanks to a funding round, we took a significant step, establishing ourselves as a company in the scaling process,” he highlights.

It is worth noting that operational flexibility is also reflected in its offerings.

“Our first product was a controller, or ‘gateway connect’ as we call it, that enables energy management across multiple chargers within a single installation,” he mentions.

He adds that load and energy management has been the core of their business since then, focusing on various profiles of CPOs like stations operators, or utilities, and that they have always focused on integrating renewable energy with charging stations.

One of the new focus areas is the integration of stationary batteries on sites, a very promising new opportunity for CPOs across Europe.

Strategic alliances and expansion in Europe

FLEXECHARGE announced a partnership with Evercharge, an AI-based solution focused on predictive maintenance of charging infrastructure.

This partnership underscores Evercharge’s commitment to improving charger availability, reducing operational costs, and increasing charging revenue, all driven by optimal use of existing data.

In this context, FLEXECHARGE’s OCPP broker designed to simplify and standardise connectivity for CPOs, enables rapid and seamless integration of software solutions with CPOs’ technology stack.

With this collaboration, the firm demonstrates how its platform can easily integrate with other systems, directly benefiting European CPOs by reducing costs and improving charger availability.

According to FLEXECHARGE CEO Max Brandt, “data is the oxygen for any CPO business.”

In this regard, he explains that the platform provides operators with full control of their data and information, which they can redirect to services that optimise their operations.

With the backing of key investors, FLEXECHARGE is poised to expand into additional markets across Europe.

By the end of 2025, we aim to be in France, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom, with the goal of attracting both customers, resellers and strategic partners,” says Christophe Lephilibert.

With the financial and technical support of their investors, the company expects to position itself as a leader in the electric vehicle charging management sector in Europe.
