Hyundai Motor UK has recently announced its collaboration with smart home charging company Ohme, solidifying its commitment to providing a seamless electric vehicle (EV) ownership experience.
The goal is to make owning, charging, and driving a Hyundai electric vehicle as effortless as possible, catering to individuals of all ages and experience levels entering the realm of pure electric cars.
Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK, stated, “Rather than put the burden of education on them, we’re curating an ecosystem of services and offers that will do the thinking for them.”
Ohme offers dynamic smart chargers capable of real-time grid connectivity.
These chargers automatically adjust to optimize charging costs, accessing the most intelligent, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective energy tariffs.
Ohme’s unique software and technology contribute to significant cost savings.
For instance, running a Hyundai IONIQ 6 Single Motor RWD with an Ohme smart charger on Intelligent Octopus Go could cost as low as £116.80 for a year for an average UK driver covering 6800 miles.
In comparison, using the Standard Variable Tariff would result in a cost of £451.62 for the same distance, and an equivalent petrol car could exceed £1200.
Hyundai further simplifies the EV ownership experience through innovations like the Charge myHyundai app, providing access to over 40,000 charging points across the UK and more than 640,000 charge points in Europe.
The Plug & Charge system, available on certain models, streamlines the charging process by eliminating the need for an app, payment card, or RFID card.
The Hyundai Bluelink app enhances convenience, offering features such as checking battery status, setting repeating charging schedules, and remotely starting or stopping charging.
The app also provides real-time information on navigation planning, charging station availability, and destination parking costs.
Hyundai’s commitment extends to the purchasing process, with test drive opportunities of up to 24 hours in participating retailers.
This initiative allows potential EV buyers to experience how an electric vehicle fits into their daily lives.
All these products and services complement Hyundai’s range of electric vehicles, designed to offer extended range and faster charging capabilities, with models such as the IONIQ 5 N and the All-New KONA gaining recognition for their performance and design.
