IONITY is expanding its ultra-fast charging network in Germany.

In Merklingen, near Ulm, IONITY has inaugurated one of its largest charging stations equipped with a total of 24 High Power Charging (HPC) points.

This expansion aims to increase High Power Charging options for long-distance electric travel along major German highways.

At the Merklingen site, customers have access to a wide range of catering services, and the charging capacity of up to 350 kW ensures a quick and convenient charging stop during long journeys.

Notably, this location marks the first IONITY station to feature HYC400 chargers from the Italian manufacturer Alpitronic.

With two power outlets per charger, the HYC400 series complements IONITY’s existing 350 kW HALO chargers, accelerating the growth of High Power Charging points at IONITY sites along European highways and major roads.

Christoph Strecker, Country Manager for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH) at IONITY, emphasizes the company’s ambitious expansion plans along German and European highways.

“Just in time for the travel season around the turn of the year, IONITY is opening a large number of new, large charging stations with a high-quality range of services on the main traffic routes A3, A7, A8, and A9 in Germany. These are based on the example of the IONITY Merklingen site,” he says.

The company offers customers the ability to charge their electric vehicles with green energy in just a few minutes.

The introduction of Alpitronic HYC400 chargers adds versatility to IONITY’s charging infrastructure, providing two power outlets with a capacity of max. 200 kW each.

As “all-in-one” solutions, these chargers do not require external control cabinets, allowing flexible integration into existing and new IONITY locations.

With 122 charging stations currently operational and 25 new sites under construction across Germany, IONITY is set to further enhance the infrastructure for electric vehicle users.

The expansion includes collaborations with notable infrastructure partners such as Wallbox, Circutor, Veltium, among others, reflecting IONITY’s dedication to shaping the future of electric mobility.
