IONITY unveiled a new charging hub, featuring six 350-kilowatt points, at the Toome highway service station.

This new hub marks the first high-power electric vehicle charging site in Northern Ireland.

“Opening our first site in Northern Ireland is an exciting nod to our investment in the country to help decarbonise mobility and make electric vehicle charging accessible to everyone visiting or living in Northern Ireland,” comments Andreas Atkins, IONITY’s UK and Ireland National Director.

“We wanted to partner with a site that already had amenities available to customers, so they could charge their electric vehicles while grabbing a bite to eat or having a coffee,” he adds.

Construction is already underway for another charging site at the Kennedy Centre in Belfast.

Additionally, the company assures it will add more stations in the future, depending on demand.

The opening of the site was supported by Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) Networks

NIE Networks is delighted to play our part in helping Northern Ireland move towards Net Zero by connecting the first high-power electric vehicle charging site in Toome,” said Ian Craig, Stakeholder Lead for Major Projects at NIE Networks.

He continues: “We are willing and ready to support the transition to greener energy and drive real, impactful change for the local population.”

Thanks to a live data partnership with Zapmap, Zapmap app users and web map users can view real-time availability and status information for IONITY charging points, simplifying the planning of charging stops.
