The Italian electric car market accelerates in September.
Last month, 6,308 fully electric cars were registered in the country, representing a 27.3 per cent increase compared to September 2023, with a market share of 5.2 per cent (up from 3.6 per cent in September 2023).
In the first nine months of 2024, 47,559 electric cars were registered in the Peninsula, marking a 3.9 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, with a market share slightly below four per cent, a slight increase compared to January-September 2023.
As of 30 September, the Italian electric car fleet consisted of 261,731 units.
Considering all fuel types, the Italian car market saw an 11 per cent decline in September to 121,666 units registered, but a 2.1 per cent growth in the nine months, reaching a total of 1,181,117 registrations.
“The volatility in electric car registrations in recent months reflects the delivery trends following the surge in orders last June, when the incentives available were exhausted in just nine hours,” said Fabio Pressi, President of Motus-E, highlighting that “while this indicates Italians’ interest in this technology, it also demonstrates the importance of planning incentive policies.”
“This need was rightly recognised by the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, during the August meeting of the Automotive Table, where a new multi-year incentive plan was announced,” Pressi concluded, “making it now essential to quickly plan the deployment of resources to avoid the gap between announcements and the actual availability of the bonus that severely impacted the market in the first half of 2024.”
