The story behind the Lynx 240: How did Floox achieve the most compact charger on the market in “record time”?

The Catalan startup answers key questions exclusively for Mobility Portal Europe regarding its latest charger, the Lynx 240. Developed in record time, this “Made in Spain” product combines an electromechanical design that meets the needs of both private users and fleet operators.

With a power density of 382 kW/m³ and dimensions of 905 x 537 x 1850 mm, Floox delivers on its promise yet again, bringing the Lynx 240 to market as the most compact charger to date.

This comprehensive solution is designed to cater to both private drivers and fleet operators.

“This product is set to become a best-seller for service areas, petrol stations, and everything related to motorway charging or long-distance travel,” says Martí Salvador, Business Unit Director at Floox, in an interview with Mobility Portal Europe.

Martí Salvador

During the discussion, Salvador highlights the key features of this new addition to the Spanish firm’s portfolio.

Despite its compact size, the Lynx 240 offers a maximum power output of 240 kW, enabling a range of 250 km to be charged in under 10 minutes.

Its modular architecture allows customers to adjust the power according to their needs, with configurations ranging from 120 kW to 240 kW, making it suitable for both public and private installations.

Additionally, the charger supports simultaneous charging for two vehicles, offering a practical and efficient solution for service stations and commercial fleets.

The announcement has already sparked interest across the eMobility sector, but many questions remained unanswered—until now.

In this interview, Salvador dives into the development process of the Lynx 240, which he describes as a “feat.”

“In less than a year, we went from concept to production—an uncommon achievement in the electric mobility sector,” he explains.

“We started working on it earlier this year, in January or February, and within a year, we went from an idea to a product,” Salvador continues.

“When you look at other companies in the sector, it has taken them years to develop products with similar power and features.”

The success of this development is largely attributed to Premium PSU, a Catalan leader in power conversion with over 40 years of experience, which has acted as an incubator for Floox.

Leveraging its expertise, Premium PSU provided the technical knowledge required to overcome design challenges, such as thermal management.

“The main challenge was heat management,” Salvador recalls, “because converting power generates heat, and making the charger more compact requires an optimised electromechanical design for thermal dissipation.”

Thanks to the use of silicon carbide (SiC) technology, the Lynx 240 achieves an energy efficiency rate of 97%, positioning it as one of the most advanced solutions on the market.

Sustainability also plays a central role in the Lynx 240’s design. Manufactured using recycled and recyclable materials, the charger reflects Floox’s commitment to responsible production and reducing its carbon footprint.

Considering all these factors, Salvador concludes, “I believe our R&D team deserves an award.”

A noteworthy detail: Floox has already created 17 direct and 5 indirect jobs, generating €1.6 million in sales revenue during its first full year of operation (2023).

Floox’s formula for attracting new customers

With a ready-to-install product, Floox is now focused on defining a strategy to position itself in the eMobility market.

“Our priority is making life easier for the end user, with standards like Plug&Charge,” says Salvador.

The charger is also compatible with all payment standards, including credit cards, eliminating access barriers for unregistered users.

“From the 12’’ anti-vandal touchscreen to remote software updates, every detail is designed to enhance the user experience,” Salvador explains.

With a charger that not only addresses current technical challenges but also anticipates future needs, Floox is setting itself apart from the local competition.

The company’s ambitions, however, extend beyond Spain.

According to Salvador, Floox plans to expand its presence in Europe, with a strategy that includes participation in international trade fairs and strengthening strategic partnerships.

“This product fits perfectly not just in Spain but across the continent. In 2025, we aim to make a stronger push into the European market to establish ourselves as leaders in fast and ultra-fast charging,” Salvador affirms.

Looking ahead, Floox is focused on continuous innovation and improving charging infrastructure, with the goal of facilitating the mass adoption of electric vehicles.

Projects like Plug&Charge and the development of advanced technologies such as Smart Pricing will play a central role in Floox’s plans to stay at the forefront of the eMobility transition.
