InstaVolt, a UK company specialising in fast charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, has announced its expansion into Spain and Portugal, committing to install over 5,000 ultra-fast chargers in both countries by 2030.

In a statement, the British firm noted that this move aims to meet the growing demand for charging points across the Iberian Peninsula.

Furthermore, it highlights that it arrives at a crucial moment for Spain, where public charging infrastructure has seen significant growth in 2024.

In this regard, it cites data from the Business Association for the Development and Promotion of Electric Mobility (Aedive), indicating that the total number of operational public access charging points in the country surpassed 34,000 units by the end of the first half of 2024.

Between April and June of this year alone, 1,905 new devices were installed and activated, averaging 20 points per day.

Among these, the fastest-growing have been the high-power chargers (50 to 250 kilowatts), which experienced a 10% increase, the company highlights.

However, despite this growth, InstaVolt points out that the demand for charging infrastructure continues to exceed supply in many regions of the Iberian Peninsula.

To address this deficit, it warns that it plans to tackle this issue by promptly installing 120 chargers in Spain and 125 in Portugal, with agreements already signed and construction ready to begin.

The first location in Spain will be at Cines Sucre, located in Vic (Catalonia), a site that reinforces the company’s aim to expand the charging network beyond major cities.

The location is easily accessible from the C-17 motorway, representing a key point for drivers travelling to and from Barcelona.

It is situated within a complex that includes a restaurant and a supermarket.

In Portugal, the first charging points will be activated in Pegoes, ensuring users have access to fast charging infrastructure on a high-traffic route.

Finally, InstaVolt states that its chargers are designed to provide a fast, easy, and hassle-free charging experience.

They utilise a contactless system that allows drivers to pay with any credit or debit card without the need to subscribe, register, or be a member of a club or entity.

This convenience, the company asserts, has made it “the preferred choice for electric vehicle drivers in the UK.”

To maintain this standard in Spain and Portugal, InstaVolt will therefore have engineers distributed throughout the territory and an internal team capable of diagnosing and solving problems remotely.

“We are very excited to continue growing and expanding our presence in Spain and Portugal, two key markets for the transition to electric mobility in Europe,” says InstaVolt CEO Delvin Lane.

He continues: “The installation of 245 ultra-fast chargers in both countries represents a decisive step in our commitment to providing high-quality charging infrastructure that can meet the growing demand from users.”
