Val Geary, VP of International at Pod Point.

Pod Point is a leading electric vehicle (EV) charging provider in the United Kingdom (UK), with its core business focused on developing products for homes and workplaces.

Since its establishment in 2009, it has installed over 250,000 charging points, with a target of reaching one million connected customers and beyond.

This company, which is publicly listed and has won several awards, collaborates with some of the leading car manufacturers.

To learn more about how Pod Point achieved success, Mobility Portal Europe speaks with Val Geary, who has been with the company for over six years and currently holds the position VP of International.

How has the company evolved over its 15 years of history in the UK?

Fifteen years ago, we created one of the first home chargers in the United Kingdom, when the first EV hit the market. Since then, we have grown to exceed a quarter of a million customers in our network.

What helped drive that growth were the partnerships we established with automakers – such as BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, and Mercedes-Benz – as well as some of the major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and leasing companies.

It is in the showroom where customers first encounter the concept of home charging.

Over the years, their products have also evolved…

Of course, we have to ensure that our service meets the users’ needs.

Features like charge scheduling – which allows users to charge when energy is cheaper – and solar optimisation – so people can benefit from the energy their panels generate – are some of the improvements we’ve implemented.

This led Pod Point to receive several recognitions…

One of the awards we won is the “What Car?” Best Value Home EV Charger of the Year, due to its quality and reliability.

We put all our 15 years of experience into developing our latest home charging solution, the Solo 3S, that provides users with all the features they need, in addition to being intuitive and easy to use. It also comes with an app that provides statistics.

Other awards we’ve won, such as Best of British Business from the Independent, are due to the level of customer service we offer. We work with customers closely over time and assess how to improve their experience

In fact, we have an excellent rating on Trustpilot with over 21,000 reviews.

How does Pod Point make driving EVs as easy and accessible as possible?

Our core business is focused on developing chargers for homes and workplaces. This is often the most economical and accessible way to power the vehicle.

Additionally, we have worked for a long time on a standard installation package.

This means that in the UK, 90% of customers will only pay a fixed price and will not be charged additional fees during the installation process.

They also launched Plug & Power with EDF…

This new package offers drivers the opportunity to purchase a Solo 3S for an initial payment of 499 pounds (compared to 1,099 pounds).

The remaining cost of the equipment is spread over two years and integrated into the tariff, providing drivers with a more cost-effective way to get a convenient and reliable home charger.

We’ve received feedback that the initial cost is a barrier for customers. That’s why this option has been a great success for us in recent months.

In addition to the price-quality ratio, what other factors do users consider when choosing home chargers?

We have conducted research to understand which features customers pay the most attention to.

On one hand, they look for reliability, meaning a comprehensive warranty. They want to know that if something goes wrong with the charger, they will be protected and receive a solution within a reasonable time.

They also look for trust, and Pod Point is one of the most recognised brands in the UK.

What are the company’s goals for 2025?

International expansion is one of the most exciting projects we are currently working on.

I have been in this position for nine months, and my daily work involves reaching out to potential partners and evaluating which countries we want to enter.

We successfully launched in Spain at the end of last year, and we have operational units in France, so we are considering how to advance in that market.
