Road Freight Incentives 2025 in Italy: Up to €8 Million for Sustainable Trucks

From 5 May to 20 June 2025, transport companies can apply for non-repayable grants to purchase electric, hybrid and LNG trucks, with €8 million available.

From 5 May 2025, at 10:00 am, a new window opens to apply for non-repayable grants aimed at purchasing heavy vehicles with low or zero emissions. Applications can be submitted until 20 June 2025, to promote the renewal and sustainability of the road freight transport sector for third parties.

The incentives are exclusively targeted at companies operating in the road freight transport sector for third parties. The financial support covers the purchase of electric trucks, hybrid trucks, and those powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

This initiative falls under the Ministry Decree of 18 November 2021, no. 461, which allocated a total fund of 50 million euros for the ecological transition of heavy vehicles.

For this fifth call, the allocated budget amounts to 8 million euros. The amount of the grants varies depending on the type and weight of the purchased vehicle.

An increase in the grant amount is foreseen if the purchase is made together with the scrapping of an old and polluting truck, thus incentivising the effective modernisation of fleets.

Interested companies must submit their applications via a PDF form, digitally signed and sent by certified email (PEC). A copy of the purchase contract, dated after 23 January 2022, must also be attached for the application to be valid.

Currently, the share of electric trucks circulating in Europe remains extremely low, at just 0.1%. This figure highlights the significant potential for improvement in the sector in terms of decarbonisation and emission reduction.

The incentives aim to close this gap by providing concrete financial support to help companies renew their fleets with cleaner technologies.

This aid programme is part of a broader strategy to accelerate the energy transition in road freight transport, a key element in meeting the emission reduction targets set by the European Union and national governments.

By favouring the replacement of obsolete vehicles with cleaner technologies, it seeks to significantly reduce the sector’s environmental impact.

Such incentives not only promote sustainability but can also help companies improve their competitiveness and operational efficiency by reducing costs related to fossil fuels and potential future restrictions due to stricter environmental regulations.

In summary, road haulage companies have until 20 June 2025 to take advantage of these funds dedicated to purchasing electric, hybrid or LNG-powered trucks, with a budget of 8 million euros available.

Proper and complete application submission is crucial to accessing this aid, which supports the renewal and sustainability of the sector.
