STCP Launches Public Tender for Acquisition of 30 Fully Electric Buses and Charging Station

This €12.9 million investment will enable the largest road transport operator in Porto’s metropolitan area to modernise its fleet. Currently, STCP operates 446 buses, of wich 15% are fully electric. when will the new units arrive?

As part of its fleet renewal plan and ongoing decarbonisation policy, the STCP (Porto Public Transport Company) has launched an international public tender on Monday, 27 January 2025, for the acquisition of 30 electric standard buses and the installation of a charging station with 15 double charging points.

This 12.9 million euros investment will enable the largest road transport operator in Porto’s metropolitan area to modernise its fleet, delivering a more environmentally and economically efficient public transport service, and actively contributing to a low-carbon economy.

The launch of this tender for 30 fully electric standard buses represents another concrete step in our commitment to clean mobility, benefiting the quality of life of our passengers and the communities in which we operate,” she adds.

The 30 electric buses, each 12 metres long with a minimum range of 320 km, are expected to be added to the fleet by the second quarter of 2026.

Once operational, the total number of emission-free buses in the STCP fleet will rise to 126 vehicles.

Currently, STCP operates 446 buses, of which 75% run on natural gas, 15% are fully electric, and 10% use diesel.

The new charging station will be installed at the Via Norte Depot, where the new buses will also be based.

This facility will feature 15 double charging units to support the expanded fleet.

The tender announcement has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union, the Portuguese Diário da República, and on the Vortal platform, ensuring transparency and accessibility for potential suppliers.
