Virta, a leading international electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy platform provider headquartered in Helsinki, announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Northe, the Scandinavian market leader in advanced EV fleet management software and services for leasing companies and other large fleet operators.
Together, the companies will become the largest B2B EV driver platform in the Nordics, jointly serving well over 100,000 active EV drivers already now.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of August, subject to customary closing conditions.
Fleet is the fastest-growing segment of electric mobility in the European market.
Company-registered vehicles—including employee benefit cars and operational fleet cars—account for approximately 60%1 of new EV sales in the EU.
This growth is driven by the economic viability of electric fleets, as well as companies’ decarbonization targets.
As electric fleet sizes continue to increase, optimizing fleet and charging costs, along with ensuring cost-efficient operational management and reporting, is becoming increasingly critical for businesses.
“Northe’s comprehensive EV fleet software, developed by a strong professional team, is among the most advanced and future-proof solutions available. By combining it with Virta’s market-leading charging business management, energy management, and Virtual Power Plant (VPP) platform, we are introducing a solution with unprecedented comprehensiveness, seamlessness, and cost-effectiveness for leasing companies, rental car firms, and corporate and light commercial vehicle (LCV) stakeholders,” says Ilkka Vanhanen, Chief Revenue Officer of Virta.
David Fauné, co-founder and CEO of Northe, states: “Virta’s strong presence with over 120,000 charging points and extensive customer base in key EV markets across Europe now provide a fast track for scaling Northe’s technology beyond Sweden, Denmark, and Norway, where we have quickly earned the trust of the largest leasing companies and fleet operators.”
He continues: “For both our existing partners and customers this will lead to a stronger Northe with more resources, larger roaming network and sharper focus to deliver on all current and future challenges they are facing. With Virta we are sure that our current offering and market position will grow stronger and play a crucial role for the existing and future EV boost.”
