XPO, a sustainable transport and logistics solutions provider in Europe, announced on Tuesday that it has placed an “unprecedented” new order for 165 heavy electric vehicles, representing the largest investment in such vehicles in France.

According to the press release, the new units are intended to replace XPO’s diesel fleet in short-haul areas.

The company plans to make approximately 25 per cent of its deliveries in France with electric vehicles by 2030, reducing its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by more than 26,000 tonnes.

“This is our second major order of electric trucks following the order we announced in January 2023, demonstrating XPO’s deep commitment to reducing our carbon footprint,” said XPO Logistics’ General Manager for France, Bruno Kloeckner.

“Our multi-energy transition strategy is based on a set of complementary solutions and initiatives, especially regarding fuels,” he added.

In partnership with Renault Trucks, XPO is transforming its fleet to comply with upcoming regulations on deliveries in urban areas, while also supporting its clients in achieving their decarbonization goals.

Overall, XPO aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in France by 25 per cent by 2025, compared to 2019.

These electric vehicles operate without directly producing CO2 emissions and significantly reduce noise and air pollution, making them particularly suitable for deliveries in congested urban areas.

They also emit fewer fine particles and less vibration, reducing driver fatigue.

Each truck is equipped with a 360° camera that reduces blind spots for optimal safety.

“We believe this approach makes XPO an attractive partner, also assisting our clients on their decarbonization journey. It also makes employees proud to be part of a leading company in transforming our sector,” said Kloeckner.

Meanwhile, Renault Trucks France’s General Manager, Christophe Martin, described the order as a “significant milestone” for sustainable mobility.

“Renault Trucks is proud to support XPO Logistics in its ecological transition. By investing heavily in electric transport solutions, essential for the decarbonization of logistics flows, XPO demonstrates a strong social commitment,” Martin affirmed.

“This new collaboration marks a significant milestone in the sustainable development of transport, which remains essential for the smooth functioning of society,” he concluded.
