Wojenski (Ekoenergetyka): “Our expansion targets the United States”

Maciej Wojenski, co-founder of Ekoenergetyka, shares with Mobility Portal Europe the company’s growth projections, upcoming launches, future business prospects, and the possibility of entering other markets. Key point: a strong focus on the United States.

Maciej Wojenski, co-founder of Ekoenergetyka, a European manufacturer of chargers for electric vehicles, has been working in the field of electric mobility for 15 years.

Initially, his role in the company was in sales and business development, but since 2022, the young entrepreneur has held a position on the supervisory board.

It is worth mentioning that Ekoenergetyka recently inaugurated a new production line that will double the production speed and improve the quality and efficiency of its products.

In this context, during the CharIN Conference & Testival EUROPE 2024 and the E-mobility Workshops at the Ekoenergetyka Training Center, Mobility Portal Europe spoke with Wojenski to understand how this project will impact the company’s growth.

What are Ekoenergetyka’s sales expectations for this year?

We expect to double our sales portfolio, thanks to the new production line, which allows the manufacture of up to 50 electric vehicle (EV) chargers in each eight-hour shift.

In fact, at the beginning of 2025, we will increase this capacity to 90.

We expect a high demand for charging devices of up to 400 kilowatts, allowing us to manufacture large volumes on this new line.

And you are also designing new products…

Yes. This year, we launched an innovative charger at the Nordic EV Summit in Oslo: the Axon Side 360 DLBS, which features a dynamic load-balancing system.

This means that up to six outlets can connect to one power unit and serve six cars simultaneously.

Additionally, we are working on a larger user unit with a high current, capable of reaching up to 600 amps consistently, using a liquid-cooled cable.

This unit is already designed to fit the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) plug, which we will present at the end of the second quarter of this year.

So, you agree with the new MCS framework in Europe…

Yes, we see MCS shaping up as the standard for heavy vehicles and we support this.

When will you consider entering the Latin American market?

I often receive inquiries from Latin America, but we have not had a real business case so far.

Although the market is huge, it is already filled with products from China, making it not so easy for us to enter.

In the near future, we will be monitoring it more closely.

Are you considering other markets?

Indeed, we have made the strategic decision to enter the North American market.

Just two weeks ago, we showcased our products in Las Vegas.

So, our expansion plan is primarily aimed at the United States.

It’s not an easy market…

The most important thing is that we need to have UL certification, issued by Underwriters Laboratories, for the specific products we decide to sell in the US.

The next step will be to have local production, as we need to comply with the Build America, Buy America Act once we want to sell to projects using federal funds.

What is your current business model?

Nowadays, we are increasingly orienting our planning towards the world of Charging Point Operators (CPOs).

At the same time, we have more and more standardized products, allowing us to scale sales channels through distributors.

So, you are investing in your own structures across Europe…

Exactly. In this way, we have developed a strong influence throughout the DACH region, in the Benelux countries, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, and the Balkans.

On the other hand, we are looking for partners who can support us in sales.

To close the interview, as a young co-founder of a large company, what would you say is the key to managing a corporation of this size?

The key factor for a company to function correctly lies in building a good organization and creating teams that work together harmoniously and balanced.

I would like to add that after 15 years working in electromobility, the market is still emerging: there is much to do and invent.

Awareness needs to be created because people need to be convinced of the importance of emerging technologies.

We must be patient because, in the next two decades, we will see the true revolution.
