End of the combustion era for Vectalia: Commitment to low emissions and Alicante as a success story

With a "clear commitment" to efficiency and sustainability, Ezequiel Molto, representative of the Vectalia Group, outlines to Mobility Portal España the key elements supporting their strategy during his participation in the Global Mobility Call.

Vectalia has not been acquiring or incorporating combustion vehicles for years,” highlights Ezequiel Molto, Director of Communication and Institutional Relations of the group, in an interview with Mobility Portal España.

Within the framework of the Global Mobility Call (GMC), he details the company’s commitment to the transition towards clean fleets: “The commitment to efficiency and sustainability is something that we are very clear about and have identified.”

In this context, Alicante is recognised as a model to follow in the Valencian Community.

Of the more than 100 buses that make up the city’s fleet, more than half operate on clean energy.

“This year we have added 25 100% electric vehicles and more are planned to be added,” explains the firm’s representative.

Why does he highlight Alicante as a success story?

According to Molto, the metropolis has positioned itself as the town in the Valencian Community with the highest proportion of electric vehicles in circulation.

“This achievement has been possible thanks to the commitment of the City Council and the Vectalia group, which, with more than 50 years of experience managing transport in the city, has promoted the adoption of this type of vehicle,” he says.

In this sense, the good performance of the cars, the durability of the batteries and the level of service they are offering are highlighted.

In this way, Alicante leads with 20% of zero-emission buses, supported by a charging infrastructure developed together with Iberdrola

What is Vectalia’s strategy?

At a national level, the Alicante-based group has approximately 1,000 vehicles, of which 15% have a zero-emissions label, reaffirming its commitment to clean fleets.

“We are constantly renewing ourselves and this year, in addition to Alicante, we have also introduced electric vehicles in Alcoy and Albacete, and we will continue to expand our range to other cities,” says Molto.

Currently, projects such as the electrification of lines in the Basque Country and Galicia stand out, as well as new concessions under evaluation, especially in Madrid.

And not only that, but it is also present in France and Morocco.

The group combines urban and interurban mobility with last mile solutions, parking lots and transport station management.

In this context, Molto stresses that the implementation of clean fleets would not be possible without financial support.

“Public aid and European funds are essential to advance sustainable mobility,” he stressed.

He explains: “It is not possible to manage the current needs for green energy and clean and neutral transport with the budgets we considered last year; it is essential to increase them.”

In Alicante, for example, the incorporation of electric buses has been co-financed by the Aid Programme for Municipalities for Low Emission Zones, with an investment of more than 2.5 million euros.

At the same time, he points out that this transition is conditioned by the production capacity of electric vehicle suppliers and by the expansion of the charging infrastructure.

“We are in a process of change that will be rapid, but we depend on supply times,” says Molto.
